Week in Review

When we passed a bill last year to allow home school kids to play sports, I had reached out to every superintendent in the district to discuss the bill and my vote. For children who are participating in sports only, there wouldn’t be any funding with the current formula. I told superintendents last year that we would fix this problem next session. Representative Blare and myself will be bringing a bill to correct the state aid formula to allow for this to be funded.

In dealing with workforce issues, especially amongst school employees, we have found out that once a teacher accesses the State retirement system, they cannot come back to work for the school for any period of time without having their retirement negatively affected. Sometimes great teachers sit idle in our small towns, when they would be willing to fill a short term gap if they weren’t negatively affected by offering their help. I will be supporting a bill that will help address this problem.

We have Cracker Barrels discussions planned for Feb 5:

Wagner 9:00 am at Booms

Platte 10:30 am at Pizza Plus

Burke 1:00 pm at VFW

Winner 2:30 pm at Statewide Ag

****Times are approximate because sometimes it takes a bit longer to get through depending on amount of discussion****

I anticipate things to only get busier in the next few weeks. I will continue to keep you updated and please reach out with questions. Also, sign up for my weekly newsletter at erintobinforsd.com for more updates.

Warm regards,

Senator Tobin
