Meet Erin

Erin Tobin grew up on a ranch south of Dallas, South Dakota, where she worked cattle, put up hay, rodeoed, and played basketball. Early on, she learned the values of hard work, personal responsibility, and commitment to community. She attended elementary and high school in Colome, South Dakota. Erin went on to attend the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, playing one year for the Lady Hardrockers basketball team before choosing to pursue nursing. She completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at South Dakota State University.

Erin immediately entered rural medicine and has spent her entire career serving families in smaller communities, working in family practice, emergency medicine, and hospital medicine.

She has served on the board of the Nurse Practitioners Association of South Dakota and currently sits on the board of Upland Outfitters. In addition, she serves as the South Dakota State Chair for U.S. Term Limits and previously was President of the Winner’s Circle of Republican Women.

During her time in the South Dakota Legislature, Tobin chaired Senate Health and Human Services as well as the state’s medical marijuana oversight committee. She also served on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Commerce and Energy, and Education, earning a reputation as a pragmatic, commonsense conservative who understands both rural healthcare and the needs of South Dakota’s farm and ranch communities.

Erin has long been committed to service beyond her professional and legislative roles. She has volunteered with the YMCA, the Humane Society, and Meals on Wheels. She taught Sunday School at Trinity Lutheran Church and has coached Country Conference Basketball, giving back to the same programs that shaped her growing up.

She is a mother of two, Gus (15) and Anna (11), and currently lives in Winner, South Dakota.
